Gary Freeman serves as Director of Investments for the Walter Scott Family Foundation, where he oversees the Foundation’s investment strategy and supports its long-term financial sustainability in service of its philanthropic mission. In this role, he provides strategic oversight and advising to the Foundation’s investment-related business units, including Scott Residential Management and Scott Data Center, and leads the Investment Committee.
Mr. Freeman oversees the development and execution of a disciplined, multi-asset investment program spanning public markets, private equity, real assets, and other alternative investments. He works closely with internal leadership and external partners to ensure the portfolio is managed with a focus on risk management, liquidity, and long-term growth, while aligning investment decisions with the Foundation’s mission, spending needs, and operating priorities.
Prior to joining the Foundation, Mr. Freeman spent nearly two decades as the President of the Hastings College Foundation, where he led fundraising, endowment management, and alumni engagement. During his tenure, he helped expand institutional resources and supported major capital and programmatic initiatives. His earlier experience includes roles in advancement at the University of Nebraska Omaha and in public accounting at PricewaterhouseCoopers.
Mr. Freeman holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Hastings College, is a Certified Public Accountant, and has completed executive education in nonprofit leadership at Stanford University Graduate School of Business. He serves on the boards of Moonlite AI and Hastings College.
